July’s Tandem Of the Month is Larry & Brenda’s Ventana el Conquistador 29’er with the Boost treatment.
The 29’er el Conq platform in stock 145mm dropout swingarm setup will accommodate both 29 x 2.4″ tires/wheels and 27.5 x 2.8″ tires/wheels. Now, Ventana has upped the ante by creating a true Boost rear swingarm that will accommodate 29 x 2.4: and 27.5 x 3.0″ tires/wheels!
This version is built with SRAM 2×10 XO drivetrain combined with an 11/42 cassette to provide a wide range of gearing (because they’re awesomely fast!). Nox carbon rims laced to Onyx hubs provide a lightweight but strong tandem wheelset. Magura MT7brakes are some of the strongest brakes we use, and the Ohlins suspension fork up front offers a new level of performance suspension for tandems.
Naturally, it’s Mango Tango, which happens to be their family tandem color of choice – You should see their family tandem picture. How cool is that???
This tandem is the first we’ve built in this configuration. The Boost 148 swingarm offers thru-axle stability and convenience in a more tandem-appropriate spacing. The Boost 110 front hub also accommodates a wide range of tire/wheel combinations as well. Best of both worlds!
